Learn To Dance Ballroom
Ballroom dancing is the more formal style of dancing used at many social occasions such as weddings, dinner dances and debutant balls. Ballroom dancing is a great way to develop poise and posture, so if you enjoy the nostalgic sounds of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble` and Harry Connick Jnr. for example then you’ll love learning these classics of the ballroom.
Waltz
Many variations of the Waltz have developed since World War 1, but the underlying style is always the same. Elegant, flowing and graceful, the Waltz is a timeless dance that involves both the dancers and their audience alike. At Rio Dance Studio, getting started is only a phone call away.
Foxtrot
The Foxtrot came into being long before the Waltz. The European dance teachers of the early century were not enthusiastic about the "wild" character of the Foxtrot and started to polish it more. The dance has a lot of variations which later, adapted or not, were imported into the Waltz. Foxtrot is one of the most natural dances from which an audience can see whether a couple can dance or not. The movements are natural and faithful to the normal walk. Quick Step
The Quick Step is derived from the Foxtrot. During the twenties many bands played the Slow Foxtrot too fast, up to 50 Bars/min, and the large open steps from the Foxtrot could not be danced on this speed.
The Quick Step is a fast moving dance based on walks and Chasses danced to music of 200 beats per minute. It retains the walks, runs, chasses and turns, of the original Foxtrot, with some other fast figures such as locks, hops, and skips added.
